A Week in Outfits | November 2020

One more week of 2020 has come and gone and I must say, the novelty of getting dressed to leave my house has not worn off. This week I took to the mirror each day to document my looks for you. Whether it inspires you to buy a turtle neck, or simply set aside the cream culotte lounge pants for a day, I think we could all use some good old-fashioned OOTDs. Enjoy!

On a Monday mornings I require clothing that makes me feel like the most creative version of myself. This lemon yellow turtle neck is always peaking out from under t-shirts, blouses, and sweaters from my wardrobe, but I’d never paired it with this wide sleeve lace-up top before. The whole day went by and I couldn’t put my finger on who exactly I was in this outfit. Am I grown-up chic in this semi-sexy top and pearl earrings? Am snowboarder cool with the turtle neck? Or am I street with my cuffed jeans and high tops? The answer never came to me, but I still enjoyed the look all the same.

Tuesday came with a much clearer mind in terms of my style persona. I was searching for comfort and threw this together in a manner of seconds, as anyone with a teething puppy will understand. Miss bomber met my new SIWY wide leg jeans, and fell instantly in love. I’ve nicknamed the new addition the “sweatpants jeans”. The comfort is like no other pair of denim that has graced my body. Pop on a stripy tee and the very same Veja trainers as the day before and THAT my friends is how you do comfy-cute-Tuesdays.

Wednesday I felt the need, as I must admit I do most days, to ground my outfit in the most spectacular boots I’ve ever owned (find them and more of my favourite piece in Shop My Style). The Acne Studios snakeskin sock boots and I have an evolving love affair, made even more sumptuous on this day with this salmon pink LF Markey boiler suit. The gold zipper accents paired perfectly with some simple gold hoops, and since this is Canada, (and this is emeroo) the white turtle neck was non-negotiable. It provided the necessary warmth but also a necessary touch of neutrality to this wild mid-week ensemble.

Once again a bold purchase from Acne Studios lead the way for the day’s outfit. Though I must say, in my eyes this unevenly-ribbed, tomato hued pencil skirt is must more versatile than one may presume. I love wearing it with very plain, casual pieces like white tees and hightops, or neutral chunky knits and knee high boots. But for this Thursday it was the similar shade of red stitched on my beloved Aries sweatshirt that sparked joy. I love feeling half dressed (I wrote an entire blog post about it earlier this year). A logo heavy streetwear sweatshirt that speaks for itself in comfort and fashion-ness paired with sleek heeled boots, tights, and of course the pencil skirt, gives me the contrast I need between caring, but not caring too much.

Friday’s look took a different route entirely in terms of caring. I most certainly cared about my style choices, as everyone who may have caught a glimpse of me at the pet food store that day could tell. Though the low-hanging, transparent Molly-goddard-esc dress may have been a poor choice with a jumpy-biting pup (I will get around to sewing the rip at some point), I truly have no regrets with this look. I could have left it with the cream turtleneck, classic mid-wash jeans, simple black belt and Calvin Klein boots. I could have been perfectly at peace with that style choice. But on this Friday I craved MORE. I wanted to feel girly, but not in a way that made me feel young. This dress turns any look into something instantly thought-provoking. Did she once partake in a goth-princess phase? Was it part of a child’s Halloween costume? These are the questions I feel as though people may ponder when they see me. I’m most likely entirely wrong. But either way, the look prevailed.

Thanks for reading.
